Our Companies

Since 1977, with the introduction of the first HSG company, we have been able to provide medical professional and general liability insurance to Missouri hospitals.  The first and each successive HSG company was formed to offer solutions to crises facing hospitals and healthcare providers across the state.  The same is true of the extensive value-added services we provide our members and insureds.  We strive to go above and beyond traditional insurance programs to offer additional legal services, risk management, educational programs, tools, and other resources that provide cost-effective, valuable solutions.

Healthcare Services Group (HSG)

Provides management, employees and facilities to operate our Family of Companies: Healthcare Services Group, Missouri Hospital Plan, Medical Liability Alliance, Providers Insurance Consultants, Inc., Hospital Association Trust, and HSG Charitable Foundation.

Healthcare Services Group (HSG)

HSG was originally formed to efficiently and cost-effectively manage the two companies that were formed in response to the 1976 malpractice crisis. Today, HSG provides management, employees and facilities to operate our Family of Companies, as well as providing a vast array of value-added services including claim management, risk management, patient safety education and more. We have earned a proud reputation as insurance problem solvers, serving primarily Missouri related healthcare providers.

Missouri Hospital Plan (MHP)

MHP is the leading writer of medical professional and general liability insurance for Missouri hospitals, their employees, subsidiaries, and related operations. For more information or to receive a quote please call Jesseca Muenks at (573) 893-5300.

Missouri Hospital Plan (MHP)

MHP was the solution to the malpractice crisis of 1985 by bringing to the market reasonably priced insurance as a “mutual” insurer. It’s not-for-profit, tax exempt status and highly cost effective management by HSG has made MHP the leading insurer of Missouri not-for-profit hospitals and employed physicians. Our “mutuality” (meaning we are owned by our insured hospitals) has resulted in a long history of providing unequaled low priced medical professional and general liability insurance, extensive value-added services and the payment of significant dividends to hospital members. Today, MHP is one of the only regional specialty malpractice companies with an “A” (Excellent) rating from A.M. Best.

Medical Liability Alliance (MLA)

MLA is a wholly owned subsidiary of MHP that offers medical professional and general liability insurance to physicians, allied healthcare professionals, and healthcare institutions in Missouri and other states. For more information or to receive a quote call Melissa Heaton at (800) 522-2776.

Medical Liability Alliance (MLA)

MLA was formed to complement MHP by providing insurance for physicians, for-profit hospitals and healthcare facilities in Missouri, Kansas and Illinois. At the request of the MHP Board, MLA was called upon to address the problem brought on by the malpractice crisis of 2002 by making reasonably priced, financially secure, insurance coverage available to physicians practicing at our hospitals. Today, MLA has gained a reputation for providing reasonably priced insurance with value added services to healthcare policyholders. As a leading writer of medical professional insurance in Missouri, Kansas and Illinois, it is one of the few with an “A” (Excellent) rating from A.M. Best and the only insurer, that we know of, with a consistent record of sharing significant profits with policyholders through our Quality Caregivers Profit Sharing Plan.

Providers Insurance Consultants, Inc. (ProCon)

A wholly-owned subsidiary of HSG, ProCon is a licensed insurance agency/broker whose primary purpose is to act as the sole access point for MLA’s professional liability coverage and help healthcare organizations place those property and casualty lines of coverage that neither MHP nor MLA write (property, workers compensation, directors & officers liability, employment practices, cyber, etc.) For information or to receive a quote contact Tyge Fourtner at 800-522-2776.

Providers Insurance Consultants, Inc. (ProCon)

ProCon was formed in 1990, to address the problem associated with bundling our insurance products with those offered by other insurers. It was constructed as a wholly-owned subsidiary of HSG that provides insurance brokerage services exclusively to healthcare providers. Today, ProCon offers quality programs for professional liability, property, workers’ compensation, directors’ & officers’ liability, cyber liability and more.

Hospital Association Trust (HAT)

HAT is a group self-insured program that provides reasonably price Workers' Compensation insurance, having a vested interest in reducing injuries and claim costs.  Like other HSG companies, profits are shared via dividends to all members. For more information or to receive a quote call Tyge Fourtner at 636-536-0502.

Hospital Association Trust (HAT)

HAT was formed to address the lack of availability of reasonably priced Worker’s Compensation insurance. Its group trust arrangement gives it the ability to control price based on its own experience, combined with aggressively improved safety and claim management efforts. The board consists of participants that have a vested interest in reducing injuries, claim costs and like all of the HSG companies, profits are shared via dividends to members.

HSG Charitable Foundation (HSGCF)

The vision of the HSGCF is to fund healthcare programs that advance the quality of patient care, patient safety, and community wellness. The HSGCF Matching Scholarship Program provides up to $5,000 per year to eligible hospitals and MLA insureds who provide financial support to students pursuing education in any healthcare related field or certificate program. For more information please contact Becky Branson Hill at (573) 893-5300.

HSG Charitable Foundation (HSGCF)

Unlike our other affiliated companies, the HSGCF was not created as a solution to an immediate problem – but rather as a proactive strategy to recruit and retain healthcare personnel in our rural and small communities.

Since 2012, our vision remains to fund healthcare programs that advance the quality of patient care patient safety, and community wellness for MHP member hospitals.  We do this by matching up to $5,000 per year in scholarship funds awarded by our member hospitals and MLA insureds – providing financial support to students pursuing education in a healthcare related field or certificate program.
