In medicine, even the most dedicated professionals can face unexpected challenges. Patients may experience complications, outcomes may not go as planned, or a patient or family may believe something went wrong, leading to a complaint or lawsuit. These situations can be highly stressful, and it’s common for healthcare providers to experience anxiety, self-doubt, and distress.
HEALS was created in 2014 (Risk Management & Patient Safety Newsletter, Spring 2014, Volume 11, No. 2) to support our insured clinicians through these difficult moments. The program provides education, guidance, and compassionate support following an adverse outcome, during a complaint investigation, and throughout malpractice litigation. We focus on the provider’s thoughts, concerns, and questions, helping them navigate the process while promoting resilience and recovery.
MLA and MHP members now also have access to BetterHelp, a confidential mental health support tool that complements our HEALS program. This resource provides timely, professional support to help clinicians manage stress, reduce burnout, and build resilience.
BetterHelp Support is:
• Discreet • Compassionate • Ready to listen
To access BetterHelp, email HSG Risk Management at rmps@hsg-group.com
HEALS is delivered through close collaboration between HSG’s Claims Department and the Risk Management & Patient Safety (RM&PS) consultants, ensuring every insured provider has access to trusted resources and meaningful support.
